Topic: When Brain meets Music -- Issues in neuro-scientific studies of music
Suk Won Yi is Professor and Chair of Musicology at Seoul National University, where he has been teaching since 1990. He received his Ph.D. in Music Cognition at UCLA in 1989 and was a founding member of ICMPC established in the same year. He has been active in the international community by presenting papers, delivering key-note speeches and invited lectures, refereeing papers, and chairing sessions in Europe, North America and Oceania as well as in Asia. At ICMPC 4 in Montreal (1996), he was elected Chair of the 5th ICMPC, which was held in Seoul in 1998 under his directorship.
   Yi authored, co-authored, and edited numerous books on various topics, many of which were awarded as "The Prominent Academic Book of the Year" by the Korean Ministry of Culture. He served as the Founding President of KSMPC (1998-2003), President of APSCOM (2004-06), and President of The Musicological Society of Korea (2004-2008). He is on the editorial/advisory boards of many journals including Musica Humana and Musicae Scientiae: the Journal of the European Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music. Most recently, Yi is conducting a neuro-scientific research project on music cognition using magnetoencephalography(MEG).
